In Line Hockey -In-line Hockey is a fast and furious team sport that is played by local boys and girls of all ages at our own Leisure Centre . With rules similar to Ice Hockey, In-line Hockey is a full contact sport that requires specially manufactured protective equipment.
Played world wide, the sport does not originate in North America as most people assume, in fact it was first played in Great Britain over fifty years ago as 'Street Hockey' due to the shortage of ice rinks in this country.
With the invention of modern skates and with the co-operation of local leisure centres the sport has evolved and is now played in full ice hockey kit with a 'speed-puck' designed for sports centres. In recent years purpose built facilities have been opened like the Virtual Ice Arena in Rotherham and wherever possible the club travels away to play Tournaments and British Team Championship matches.

History  of Pontypool Skater Hockey Club - The club was formed in 1996 when following an explosion of interest in the sport, Jacky and Marvin Rue booked Pontypool Leisure Centre for their two sons and their friends to play hockey in a safer environment. Numbers increased and in a matter of weeks a club had been formed with a committee elected to run things
The club grew and was coached with the help of a former player, Adrian Mahoney, who had played for North London Spartans and Nigel Harris whose nephew was playing. Two teams were formed at under 18 and under 14 ages, after a shaky start in the first year when heavy defeats were routine, the teams started to improve and the clubs trophy cabinet started to fill up. Another team was formed, the under 10s and the club was now competing at the top of every age group.
In 1998 the clubs pee wee side won the Welsh League Title and qualified to compete in the British Team Championships. As complete unknowns they caused one of the biggest upsets ever in the sport wining every match and defeating the European Champions 9-8 in the Final to take the British Team Championship. Only a late cancellation stopped the team going to Denmark to the compete in the 1999 European Championships.
Success has continued with many Championships and with local players also representing Wales.
