Tribute to Owen Price.
A talented young sportsman who played for Cardiff Devils has died suddenly at the age of 17.
Owen Price was netminder in the Cardiff Devils under-19s B team and also a roller hockey netminder with the Superleague and Pontypool under- 16s team.
The Abergavenny born player and coach died after a short illness on Sunday June 4th.
Graham Collins, Owen's roller hockey coach for both the Pontypool and Wales teams, said "The hockey community has been saddened by the news of the sudden death of Owen. He started playing as a six-year-old for his home town team of Abergavenny and quickly established himself in goal. When his team folded Owen transferred to Heads of the Valley, and after a short spell with Cardiff side Howardian, settled at Pontypool. Owen was one of the most determined, dedicated and liked players in the sport. He will be sadly missed by us all".
After making his name as a roller hockey player, Owen joined the Cardiff Devils play as an ice hockey netminder.
The Devils' development manager Andrew Thorne said: " As a netminder Owen was very brave. Nobody's natural reaction is to stand in front of a solid ice hockey puck, but that is what Owen did. His team mates will remember him as calm, kind and really friendly".
Owens ice hockey coach Bob Stansfield said "I had the privilege of working with Owen. He was a joy to coach, always listened, he was keen to improve and learn new skills. It has saddened me deeply to hear the news and he will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
At the funeral in St Teilo's Church in Abergavenny players wore their team shirts.
A trust fund is being set up in Owens name for the benefit of hockey players, coaches and teams.
