The Day Finally Arrives!

Read a report on what actually happened.

During the 2006-07 season, Pontypool Skater Hockey Club almost doubled its membership, spectacular growth in its under tens resulted in twenty players being registered in this one age group alone.
There were many reasons why this happened, but the main factor was the clubs involvement in the  Garnsychan Festival of Sport. This event was organized in the Abersychan area of Pontypool and funded with a grant of £25000 from the Rural Key Fund (European Objective One Funding). The club applied for, and was awarded a grant of £2250. This enabled the club to buy a substantial amount of kit to loan out to new players. Many obstacles had to be overcome, but the clubs members, officials, players and helpers rallied around to make it a huge success.
The club was complemented on its professionalism and meeting all of the organizing committees requirements.

Could your club hold an open day or go out to a new area and expand its membership?
You may have to set up at a different location to bring hockey to a new audience. We had to transport goals, boards, safety netting. (Fortunately the club owns its own public address system and scoreboard).
You will definitely need KIT.

Pontypool Skater Hockey Club has been established at its local leisure centre since 1996. (Except for a period of 18 months when it was being refurbished)
The club has always trained on Wednesday nights and this has enabled it to promote the slogan 'Wednesday Night is Hockey Night'
The club enjoys exceptionally high awareness amoung children in Torfaen.
