Caerphilly Cobras under 15 In-line hockey team represented Wales in the international tournament held in Assenheim, Germany over the weekend 5 th -6 th November. This is the fifth time the tournament has been run and it attracts top teams from within Europe. This year 6 German teams entered along with a team from France.
After seeing an article in the local German newspaper where the Cobras were tipped to win the cup, there was no stopping them! The Cobras won all qualifying games to come top of their group and found themselves facing the home team Assenheim Patriots in the Semi Final. With a huge crowd cheering and welsh flags flying all around the arena the Cobras won the match to deservedly gain their place in the Final.
The final where the Cobras faced Pinguine Baunthal was watched by a packed house. It was a tense final with the score standing at 2-2 at half time. The Cobras fought hard to finally win the match with a score of 4-2.
The team were complimented on their game play and the European teams and the coaches were amazed that we had to battle for training time in leisure centres and that we had no purpose built hockey facilities in Wales.
All the European teams expressed an interest in coming to Wales to play hockey. Everyone at Caerphilly In-line hockey club would love to extend the welcome to these teams in the near future and will be busy pressing the plans to build an In-line hockey rink in South Wales.
